Mexican Red Rump Tarantula (Tliltocatl vagans) - part of the genus split from Brachypelma in 2019: a placid, hardy, dry-leaning New World terrestrial that grows noticeably faster than true Brachypelma. Adults reach about 5-6.5 inches across; females are long-lived (15-25 years). Care basics: dry-leaning substrate with a water dish (keep one corner lightly moist), substrate deep enough to start a burrow, expect medium growth. Keeper notes: this species is the more defensive one in its genus group and can be flicky with urticating hairs, opportunistic burrower, keep the enclosure low to prevent fall injuries.
