Ornamental Baboon Tarantula (Heteroscodra maculata) - the Togo Starburst, one of the two most medically significant tarantulas in the hobby. Peptide-rich venom with documented hospital-visit bites, and this species will deliberately attack rather than retreat. Adults reach about 5 inches across. Care basics: vertical cork with heavy webbing and dirt-curtain decor, slightly moist substrate, cross-ventilation and a water dish, never handle and never open without a staged catch cup. Keeper notes: medically significant venom (bites have sent keepers to the hospital), will deliberately attack rather than retreat, experienced Old World keepers only, no kids or pets in the room during maintenance.
